Grandma's house was the place to be when you were sick. Campbell's chicken noodle soup, saltines, and Seven-Up were staples whenever I needed some TLC. If you were too sick to go to school, you were too sick to go out and play too. But, she had the best books.
Mom was a sitter. If you were upset about something and would not tell her what it was, she would sit on you. Eventually you get hungry and fess up to whatever was bothering you. It was effective parenting.
Hanging out with the boys in a condemned house once, we light a fire. The police pulled up outside so I went to stomp out the fire. Unfortunately, Dr. Johnson had to dig out rusted bits of nail from my foot to clean it. Stepping on a nail sucks. Stepping on a nail attached to a flaming board that then melts to your shoe is epic. #tetanus
